Sheryl Smith-Rodgers, a sixth-generation Texan, has written on and photographed a variety of topics. An award-winning writer, she’s been published in numerous state and national newspapers and magazines. She and her husband, James Hearn, live in the Texas Hill Country. At Window on a Texas Wildscape, she blogs about the native habitat they tend at their home. So far, Sheryl's documented approximately 1,437 species in their yard using iNaturalist! She is a Texas Master Naturalist and a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

In September 2024, Sheryl learned that she had Dupuytren's disease in her left hand. The diagnosis has led her to share her journey in hopes of helping and educating others.
